Let yourself unwind in the gorgeous coastal lands of Mendocino as you're tucked away in a spacious loft apartment made for relaxation. We’ve designed a large studio space with fluffy linens, handmade textiles, and natural touches to delight you. Walking distance to the beach, sunset views, a restaurant and store--it's a perfectly-situated restful nook on the coast. If you love a clawfoot tub, this place is for you (there is a comically-short shower intended only as a backup).
Good to know
The loft centers around a leather couch and reading area, with a plush king size bed and light-filled views over the spacious yard and garden. We’ve provided robes, slippers and natural bath products for your luxurious moments in the claw foot tub. (Note: we installed a shower that is quite low and not great for tall people—it’s mainly a functional addition for quick showers if the tub isn’t enough). Downstairs you’ll find a well appointed kitchenette with an induction stove and everything you need to make small meals. Coffee, multiple teas, and some light food is provided in case you get in late. We encourage you to step outside on the porch or hang out in our spacious shared front yard. The Retreat loft has its own entrance and the entire unit is private and secure, but does share walls with the main house where the owner or other Airbnb guests will be residing. Sound can travel between the walls. Please note the property is shared, so we ask you to honor quiet hours between 11pm and 8am.
Other Details to Note
Despite the Retreat feeling very private, it is separated from the main house by secure doors that have some added sound insulation (the owners live and work on site). Though we love pets, we don’t allow them at the property. This is meant to be a peaceful retreat for you and the owners and neighbors who live here, so we ask that you minimize loud noise and honor quiet hours between 10pm and 8am, or 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights. The stove is an *induction* stove, which means it won’t work with aluminum and some other types of pots and pans. We have all the basic items at the property for this small kitchenette.

Accessibility and Availability
Neighborhood
Some natural gems are walkable from the house, including a huge sinkhole where waves roll in through a cave, Van Damme state beach with kayaking and firepits, and the Van Damme State Park with trails into the towering redwood forest. The Little River Inn has a bar with the best view around, excellent American cuisine, and golf and tennis for a small fee. A short four-minute drive takes you to stunning Mendocino Town--the preserved Victorian gem. Eight excellent restaurants are within a ten minute drive from the property, as well as multiple more modest cafes and sandwich places. An endless number of mind-boggling coastal views, beaches, forest walks, and other nature experiences can be found up and down the nearby coast.
